What do you like most about our current program? Please be detailed. What do you like least about our current program? Please be detailed.
1. The instructors are wonderful; the courses are indepth and make you work to earn your degree. There's really nothing I dislike about the program.
2. The interaction in the on-campus classes is what I like the most. I feel you can get a better handle on the material when it is presented in this manner. The decrease in on-campus classes is what I like the least for the above reason.
3. The fact the the program is online makes it very desireable because of work and family commitments. I could not honestly mention anything that I dont like about the program. It is very detailed and the work is challenging but yet rewarding with regards to learning.
4. This is my first class, but from what I've read about your program online, you seem to cover everything. I like that the program can be taken completely online. I like that it can be done in a reasonable amount of time. I like that you offer online tutors.
5. I am new to the program and have only had 2 classes thus far. So far I have enjoyed the classes (Law 10 and 11 is what I have taken. Its the first time I have taken an on-line class and I really enjoyed them but can't help but feel I am missing out on not being in a classroom environment with other students.
6. I love being able to study independently and not having the requirement of being in class at a certain time. I do wish the professors were more accessible somehow. On more than one occasion I have emailed a prof with a question and have received no response. (NOT YOU PROF JORDAN!) Its come to where I feel like I'm "bothering" them and I now hesitate altogether in emailing a prof w/a question
7. What I liked most: you covered a lot of ground and gave us a decent foundation. What I liked least: the classes are too easy (except for that stinkin' evidence class - what a ballbuster! - even though it turned out to be by far my favorite class of all) and I feel that this is causing law firms to lower their expectations and standards of quality which results in lower pay and less respect for paralegals as a group. Our job - at the end of the day - is to free up the lawyer so that he/she has time to be a rainmaker yet so often we are relegated to being nothing more than glorified file clerks.
8. most... the fact that you are on your own pace. least...the fact I didnt find out about it until after I spent $2500 for ONE class at University of Phoenix : )
9. Well I like the program nothing is really bad about it, but I would like to see teachers to actually show the students where they have committed a mistake and to help them understand why it is a mistake.
10. I like most the flexibility that provides working at your own pace. I do not found anithing that I dislike.
11. I like independent learning and Prof J. answers emails and phone calls right away. I have had some difficulty getting responses from other professors and tutors.
12. The teacher are very helpful and are there for you and if you need any help the whole school well be there to help you, I have gone to other school but, Mission College is the best I have attended.
13. I like the accessibility of the on-line classes, with the option of taking some of the classes at the school. I'd prefer to know what I got wrong or didn't cover enough on assignments and non-multiple choice quizzes, but I do know that that is difficult to do.
14. I like that it is completely online. I haven't started my first class yet, but from reading the website it seems as if there is lots of support (tutors, chat time, contact info, online resources like book chapters for people who haven't yet purchased the books.) You are making it easy for students to be successful. I have not (yet) seen anything I dislike.
15. What I like the most in this program is being able to take the entire program online, which allows me to work basically at my own pace. The only think I don't like is the length of time it takes for grades to generally be updated. One of my classes there was no grades or feedback until almost the end, so, I was not sure if I was on the right track or not when I was working on the assignments.
16. LIKE MOST: Online easy access, accessibility. Well laid out ETUDES. Can see grade status. LIKE LEAST: nothing
17. What I like most is that I can do this program in the comfort of my own home. Lease like about the program I believe making it easier for us as students to be able to contact a tutor.
18. I love the fact that I can do this all on line. Working full time its the best way for me to be able to do this program. I learn well on my own so it does work for me. The part that I miss is the social aspect of being in class and meeting people. See next question.
19. There are so many wonderful aspects of the Paralegal Certification Program such as the reasonable cost of the classes, pay as you go system, Etudes, entirely on-line offering, the numerous resources available, access to tutors and the meet & confer benefit. More importantly is the fact that the Director of the program has such a willingness to assist students, always available and replies are speedy.
20. What I like most is that I've never had trouble enrolling due to a full classes and I like the low cost of a community college. What I like least is the limited availability of on campus classes. I don't mind a combination of online and on campus, but I don't like that most are online.
21. Very convienant and the classes are available to take almost every semester.
22. I like the freedom of the on-line system and the resources provided to help in the study process. I am frustrated with the response to questions I ask via e-mail. Last semester I asked questions twice regarding test answers and both times did not get any reponse. This semester, with the quizzes being essay style, I am not informed as to what I didn't get correct, I only get a score posted, with no clue as to what was wrong. I think it is important to learn what you don't answer correctly on a quiz...that is the learning process.
23. online very convenient- i like this the most i like least is you do not feel the voice of the teacher and you do not know his thoughts on what you write.
24. I like the classes that are interesting and not borring. I like the cases, but some of these cases are too long and by the time you get to the end of the reading you get confused. I like it when you read the case and you know what the case is about, but not when there is different illaborations and opionons of others. I like to read the case just itself without any footnotes, I like the footnotes after the case when people bring their opinions and their own conclusions. The due dates of the assignements are to close with the other classes. Even though I know it is a 5 week class I think the assignments should have been cut down a little especially the reading material, because there is not enough time to do all the assignments before and be ready to do the other class assignements as well.
25. liked - the online format... disliked - I wished there was more feedback on the assignments.
26. I like the ETUDE that allows the curriculum to flow easily. I can submit my necessary assignment and test without the hassle of trying to figure how to work the program. I dont dislike anything.
27. I would like to be able to work for credits with a local law firm to see what a legal assistant does. Sort of like a ride along. Watch how cases are discused. Set in on the actual client interview. Watch the legal assistant go about researching a current case on the computer and at the law library. I would like to tag along. Better than a book reading.Probate law office. Labor law office. Personal injury office, etc.
28. I like using the ETUDES portal for the classes and how the class is set up with the assignments/tests and due dates. The discussion boards can be used to facilitate more communication and discussion of issues related to the class.
29. I like that all of the classes are available online! I don't like that it isn't ABA approved.
30. Dr. Jordan's style and presence is your best asset as he is a welcoming force. Least? I would like to see chats online between all students, so there is a sense of community. I see few posts. And, for those who are aways from Sylmar, maybe they could even get to know each other. (I am moving to Chico, from an area close to Grass Valley. It is remote.) Maybe there could be retreats. It could be anywhere, including camp grounds in Northern California. Why not? There are lots of facilities, and they are open to schools, I am sure. Churches have a lot of retreat/camp areas open to rental.
31. I like that I am able to take the entire program online at my convenience. I also like how user friendly the entire program is and willing to help the professors are.
32. I have only taken 5 courses so far but I feel like more hands on with actual situations and forms for each would be great. Bankruptcy and eviction was set up with the student having to fill out the forms and I felt I learned the process better than if I would have just read about evictions or bankruptcy. I love the flexible schedule with the online courses. I love the class selection.
33. Amount of time taken to complete course
34. I am very impressed with the program and my boss who has a law degree is also very impressed with the aspects of the courses that I have discussed with him. He says I am learning things similar to what he learned in law school and to think like an attorney. The only thing I have some difficulty with is the instructions on some of the assignments are sometimes not real clear and it is hard to ask for clarification on the instructions as you would in a normal classroom situation.
35. What I like most are the instructors, actually. "Most" of them. Loving the law as I do, I feel that they make this field even more exciting and show great concern and compassion for their students. I do like the cases in which we must read and break down. These assignments are long and require much reading but actually force a student to focus in and to understand law terminology and why the end result was arrived at. These are challenging and actually show the student and the instructor if they have a comprehension of what is going on. What I like least is that a certain instructor is able to grade in any way he feels his mood at the momment warrants. While comparing answers to questions on test papers with others, I have found that answers which warranted A's on one students paper, warranted a "B" or less with another. Correct answer, but different grade, with NO explanation as to why. What I like least is that many instructors do not give you a clue as to why your grade is such as it is, and inspite of asking from one professor, there is no explanation. With most instructors, if you ask, you are given an answer. But again, one instructor does not give answers nor any help when requested. What I like least is that one instructor imparticular does not respond to his emails, he does not answer questions and does not grade equally. Instructors for the most part will respond, but not at all times. What I like least, is that at program end, when certificates are awarded or an AA Degree in the field is accomplished , not all memebers of the staff of the law department bother to attend. During the certificate ceremony there only two members of our law department in attendance, in Spring of 2006, during the AA graduation there were NO members of the law department present.
36. That most classes are online.
37. The convenience of online school. The web pages are a little difficult to navigate.
38. This is my first time taking the program, so I don't have much of the input for this question.
39. nothing bad really
