Professional and Staff Development Report for College Council - 9-15-05


1. Flex Day - We had another successful Professional Development Day (Flex Day) on 9-01-05 for Fall 2005 with a total of 124 Full Time and Adjunct Faculty attending during the day session and 31 during the Evening Flex Program. During the day, there were a number of interesting workshops, including Academic Excellence with Dr. Kay Hudspeth of Cal Poly Pomona, Using Technology for At Risk Students with Prof. Karla Johnson Majedi of CSUN, and Successful Learning Outcomes with Marna Cornell, along with a Budgeting and Procurment Workshop with our own Connie Reyes, Computer and Telephone Tips with Joyce Hollingsworth, Financial Aid with Anafe Robinson, Payroll and Using ERPA for assignments - Johnny Berella and Ronn Gluck.

2. Safety and Preparedness on Campus - Staff Development had its first meeting of the year on 9-07-05, and in light of the tragedy in New Orleans, the Committee decided to adopt the theme "Safety and Preparedness at Mission College" for the Fall 2005 semester.

One out of four women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus.
