Most negative: IAs stated by Angela, it was supposed to be a panel of
speakers. It wasn't. It was a series of individuals taking time to come
up and speak one at a time, telling us what they do or are possibly
might do. I saw no tangible outcome from these except from the art area
where a portfolio would be useful and would be a tangible learning
outcome. Other than that, nothing was firm. Sorry. I was expecting a
moderator, an overview and then input on specifics from various people
and disciplines.

Positive: 1)clarification between slos and objectives 2)the enthusiasm of Debra Paulsen and Jan Silver
|
|
3.
|
Positive, we got together with colleagues and talk about teaching.
Negative, we do not do this often and we were missing a few other teachers.
|
|

We did obtain some handouts regarding SLO; however, there was no
designated person to run the break-up session for each department. The
college should have trained a few lead persons well in terms of SLO
prior to conducting workshops for SLO per department. Some adjunct
faculty members were extremely bored during the break-up session.

The most positive thing was a better understanding of what SLOs are.
The most negative was that there should have been less lengthy
presentations, and that the speaker could have worked and been
available for individual questions.

It forced us as a group to look at what slo's are covered in our
library workshops. I would have liked to continue this in the pm.

Working together as a team.
I will write SLO's in my syllabi.

Exchange of ideas among faculty members was very positive.

We had the opportunity to share with other dept. new ideas. It was a positive experience.

All good teachers monitor their student's learning throughtout the class.

Anybody who has ever written a course outline will see how silly the
slo is. We have to split hairs looking for the differences among,
goals, objectives, exit skills, and now slo's. I guess this will
justify somebody's position somewhere.

The morning session on SLO's helped to refocus our energies on this
and, hopefully, make some real progress during this academic year.
SLO's are something we educaters do instinctively, so it's just a
matter of putting the language in the correct context on our syllabi.

Too little time given to allow disciplines to meet.
Already using SLO's

SLO's are a total waste of time! The state Academic Senate voted not to use them, why should we?

It was only discussed briefly during the adjunct meeting.

|
Positive: Understanding the SLO's.
Negative: not given in my discipline, boring presentations
Include: on my syllabus

I really don't think I got very far with SLO's. I wrote down some
things, but I felt like I was on my own. Need more instruction on a
one-on-one basis.

SLO's are about the same for every class, but the steps taken in order
for students to succeed depends on the instructor. The techniques
differ from instructor to instructor which is quite interesting. There
are no negatives when it comes to discussing student learning outcomes
and how to improve them.
